Baghdad talks including US, Iran, Syria set to begin Saturday
Mar 10, 2007, 6:39 GMT
Baghdad/Washington - A high-level meeting in Baghdad with Iraq's neighbours and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, which could see direct talks between the United States and Iran and Syria, was to begin Saturday.
Ambassadors and foreign ministry officials from Iraq's neighbours, Egypt and the five permanent UN Security Council members are due to attend the conference to discuss the current Iraq crisis.
Speculation has centred on whether US and Iranian diplomats might hold face-to-face talks on the sidelines of the meeting, aimed at getting Iraq's neighbours more involved in stabilizing the fractured country.
In a sign of shifting diplomacy, US officials said Thursday that they were open to talks with Iran and Syria, Washington's other key foe in the region. The US accuses both Tehran and Damascus of contributing to the violence in Iraq.
A follow-up ministerial meeting on Iraq was due to be held in Egypt in April.

PM Maliki's wrong identity identificationMar 10th, 2007 - 08:31:33
PM Maliki's wrong identity identification of a fictional Kaida = Base
operator yesterday = friday and this arrest is not at all astonishing:
Condi Rice, the Russians say she does not even master Russian language,
does not even understand and write Arabic and Farsi language. Futher :
Her other qualifications as an U.S. Foreign secretary of state are
worthless. Condi Rice has absolutely no influence in the whole region.
But U.S. taxpayers finance such an idiot of textualism. Continue. That
brings the U.S. down. As a classical piano player her Brahms playing
is very poor. The sunnis will never acknowledge what this Jewish Lady
does but act exactly in the 180° other direction.
