Olmert, Abbas finish meeting in Jerusalem (Extra)

Mar 11, 2007, 18:47 GMT

Jerusalem - Israeli Premier Ehud Olmert met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for about two hours in Jerusalem Sunday evening.

During the meeting, Abbas raised the matter of the Arab League peace proposal from 2002 as the possible basis for future talks, and asked the Israeli leader to extend a ceasefire to the West Bank, in addition to Gaza, the Israeli YNET Website reported.

Olmert addressed the issue of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit and continued rocket fire into Israel by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip.

The two agree to continue to meet regularly.

Prior to the meeting aides warned it would not lead to any 'dramatic breakthrough' but were simply aimed at keeping communication channels open.

Israel Radio reported that the first part of the talks, held at Olmert official residence, would see Israeli and Palestinian teams, headed by Olmert and Abbas, confer, after which the prime minister and the president would have a one-on-one parley.

Sunday's meeting was the third between the two men since December 24.

Hmmmm, this is almost comical.

Two`leaders' neither of whom have anything near a consensus among their own people having `meetings'. And neither one has the ability to do anything meaningful.

Any wonder nothing much happens?

Abbas' little hint about the Saudi Peace Plan is truly comical. In case anyone hasn't researched it, it calls for (a) Israel to retreat to the indefensible pre `67 borders and make thousands of its own citizens homeless so that the Palestinians can have a closer range to launch attacks on what's left of Israel (b)the Jews of Israel to go back to the pre `67 status quo in making the Old City of Jerusalem and the Jewish Holy Sites free of Jews and inaccessible to them and (c) flooding the rest of what's left of Israel with thousands of genocidal `refugees' and their descendants.

In exchange for endorsing what amounts to national suicide, Israel is promised undefined `normal relations', at least for the short time it would exist.

This is the Arabs' idea of a peace plan!

Actually,if anyone's interested there IS a relatively sane, fair and just way to end the Arab Israeli conflict - or at least, reveal who's serious about peace and co-existence and who isn't:
