Baghdad - US-soldiers freed three hostages while performing an operation against Sunni extremists near the city of Qarma on Thursday, US-army reported.
They were handcuffed and beaten by their kidnappers. Thirteen alleged insurgents were captured in Mosul, Baghdad and Taji.
During the night, police fought against supporters of radical Shiite-preacher Moqtada al-Sadr in Diwaniyah after a functionary of the Sadr-movement got arrested.
