Tehran - An Iranian diplomat who arrived in Tehran Tuesday upon release from Iraq was quoted Saturday as saying he had been kidnapped and tortured there by US forces, the official IRNA news agency reported.

'I was transferred to a base near the Baghdad airport after the Iraqi agents working under the control of the (Central Intelligence Agency) CIA kidnapped me,' Jalal Sharafi, second secretary of Iran's embassy in Baghdad, was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Armed militants dressed as Iraqi soldiers had kidnapped him in the Karada area of central Baghdad on February 4. Iran harshly condemned the abduction as a 'terrorist act'.

'The CIA agents' questions were mainly about Iran's presence and influence in Iraq,' said the diplomat, adding that 'they had severely tortured me when they faced my answers about Iran's official relations with the Iraqi government.'

The allegations follow claims by 15 British naval personnel the previous day that they had been subjected to intense psychological pressure in 13 days of Iranian custody after being seized in the Shatt al-Arab waterway.

Five other Iranians were arrested in January by the US military at a consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Arbil as part of the effort to confront alleged Iranian meddling in Iraq.

Tehran insists the five men were consulate officers and were not involved in militant activities. Washington accuses them of being members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard and providing material support to Shiite militias.

There have been _confirmed_ reports of US soldiers (claimed to be working alone) abusing and torturing Iraqi/Iranian prisoners. Considering the USA's apparent inability to control their soldiers and to put their actions where their mouth is on the torture issue, I think any claim made against the US in these respects should be taken seriously.

Do you have the slightest idea what the consequences of that would be you racist freak? No more oil to fuel your SUVs, or at the very least 8 or 9 dollars a gallon. I know that rednecks like you can't afford that, what with all the beer you have to buy. A World War WOULD ensue, and I bet that you aren't willing to make the kind of sacrifices needed for us to even have a chance to win that. We need to get every single American out of the Middle East, We have no business there, NONE. America has reserves of oil to last far longer than it would take to develop and implement a new, renewable, fuel source. I apologize for using words with more than 3 syllables, READ A BOOK! America WAS the best counrty in the world until we started this war, and started pissing on the Geneva Convention, and the Constitution. It would not be surprising if the Iranian diplomat was tortured, but it would be hard to prove without a confession on the part of someone in the CIA or a 'defense contractor' like Blackstone. That's not like to happen for several decades at least, if at all. But it really doesn't matter; ever since the Bush administration endorsed the use of and engaged in the practice of torture, the US surrendered the moral high ground. Anyone held captive by US forces can claim to have been tortured and the claims have the exact same degree of validity as claims that our people were tortured by someone else's forces. Just don't leave any permanent marks. It takes decades to build trust; it sure didn't take long to destroy it. What Nixon did was bad; what Bush did was infinitely worse.

I was just thinking, people are always saying that America invaded Iraq for oil, etc. Now, I don't have a PhD in economics, but my price at the gas pump in America has actually gone up these past few years. If we control the oil in Iraq as some people claim, we control the supply...but the economics of reality do not support this accusation. Leads me to believe that, hey, maybe we didn't really invade Iraq for the oil.

So here's what I propose for Iran. People don't believe that we actually want to liberate people from tyrants, even if thats what we want. People wouldn't believe that we would invaded Iran because of an act of war (kidnapped soldiers, supplying Iraqi insurgency with weapons, etc). So lets just forget trying to look good for the rest of the world and actually invade Iran for oil. I'm tired of paying high prices at the pump and it would be nice to have our own private supply.

With this solution we kill two birds with one stone. We wipe out a terrorist country and we get some monetary compensation for the people of America. Maybe colonize them for a while so they learn to be civilized for the future and actually contribute something useful to the modern world (algebra was like so 11th century dude). Foreign nations always think we're evil no matter what we do, so lets actually get some economic benefit from doing whatever we do that pisses off the world. A kill some terrorists while we're at it!

Fisrt let me address Hidden Imam. Please tell me why we have to be in the Middle East? For the Oil? Let me 'educate' you on a couple of facts. First, America supplied Saddam Hussien with the capability the develop his WMD's in the 80's, which he then chose to use on the battlefield against Iran, then on sick experiments against the Kurds, so who harbored the 'terrorsts'. Iran is not a 'terrorist' state. The 'acts of war' you speak of are weak excuses. Henry Ford supplied the Nazi's with jeeps in WWII. He is the only non-german to receive the German equivalent of the Medal of Honor. Those are acts of war, too, by your definition, so shoul;d we attacjk Ford Motor Co. Too? Muslims do not want to turn America into a Muslim state. They just want their region back. Don't belive everything the bumbling idiot that sits in the Oval office says, learn to recognize propaganda. If America could extract itself from thier land, including all military installations, use the money we would save , Billions, possibly trillions, to develop renewable energy sources at home, we would not need any oof the resources of the Middle East. America also needs to stop bowing to the Jewish Lobby. The United Nations STOLE Isreal from the Palestinians. Gee, I wonder why Arabs are so pissed off at us and Isreal. Imagine if Africa took Georgia and Mississippi for an African state to compensate for slavery. You'd be pissed off too.
Kill 2 Birds, please get a PhD, or at least a degree in economics before you open your ignorant mouth. We DO NOT need Iran's oil to lower the prices at the Gas pump. What we pay for Gas has very little to do with supply. In Fact, we have more oil now thatn we did last year at this time, and I'm paying nearly 3.50 (tree-fitty) for a gallon. Energy traders, and the oil companies themselves are driving up the prices, not people in Iraq and Iran. Iraq wasn't about Oil itself, it is about controlling the price of Oil. Bush and Cheney both stand to make Billions after they leave office by sitting on the boards of the oil companies that are stealing the Iraqi's main exportable product. Renewable energy is a golden egg waiting to be hatched. The money this country could make, the jobs that will be created, it's a no'brainer. By the way, maybe you shouldn't bash Algebra, especially since you're a amatuer economist that needs Algrebra! Our number system comes from the Middle East, a basic thing that the western world could not do without.

No, I'm not the hidden imam. I'm just one of those Christian Americans.

Anyway, its just no liberal with (or without) an education has ever refuted my argument intelligently. Nobody can explain why oil prices continue to rise despite the fact we 'secure' oil in Iraq. If anything the counter-hypothesis is true. Invasion of Iraq has destablized oil prices. Perhaps it is high time we stabilize them again and take over Iranian oil fields (BTW, the people who are actually gaining most from newly awarded Iraq oil contracts are not us, but our Communist/Socialist friends Russia and China...and notice how quiet they are about what's going on in the Middle East).

If the VP was so rich of Iraq oil + Haliburton, why is he still VP? If I were rich from oil, I'd quit politics in a heartbeat. Who needs people telling you how crap your are, etc. when you could just buy your own private island somewhere and not have to deal with people. Just because the only religions that came over here were christian-based (radical zealots in Europe), that doesn't mean that Christianity is 'America's Religion'. Obviously, I am an Atheist (free thinker), but I do not have the right to deny your free practice of whatever religion anyone else practices. What I do have a right to do is fight against the government using religious 'values' to create domestic and foriegn policy. Read the Constitution, and you'll clearly see the passage prohibiting the government from endorsing any particular religion. Unfortunatley, Yale doesn't teach a class on the Constitution, or maybe Bush would realize this. Wait, Bush nearly failed out of Yale, when he wasn't powdering his nose or tipping the bottle.

Wrong. Saddam got his 'WMD' capability from whomever would sell it to him. Mostly from France and Germany. His conventional 'WD' moistly came from China and Russia. Your blame the USA for everything programming doesn't hold up here.

'then on sick experiments against the Kurds'

Those were directly traced back to Germany...So again, you are just flat wrong. Your blame America for everything programming doesn't work here.

' Iran is not a 'terrorist' state. '

Wrong, just flat wrong, you pompous idiot: Since 1979, Iranians or Iranian funded and controlled terrorist groups have; invaded the US embassy and held our diplomatic staff for 444 days, took American journalists and a British minister hostage in Lebanon, killing William Buckley, bombed the US embassy in Lebanon killing 17 Americans, bombed the US barracks Beirut which killed 241 Americans on a peacekeeping mission, bombed the Khobar Towers killing 19 Americans, hijacked an aircraft and killed Robert Stethem and dumped his body on the tarmac, bombed a Jewish center in Argentina, killing 85, their proxy Hezbollah has started several conflicts with Israel, including the one last summer which left hundreds dead. They still have a bounty on the head of Salmon Rushdie for writing a book that they didn’t like, they have provided the Shiite death squads in Iraq with training and material as well as the Sunni death squads that go after the Shiites with the objective of creating as much bloodshed in Iraq as passable. They have also been supplying shaped charges and shoulder launched anti-aircraft missiles to kill coalition troops. They Chant 'death to America' on a daily basis in their schools and Mosques, they continually threaten to wipe Israel off the map, they have mined the Strait of Hormuz, they publicly lynch girls for being 'disobedient', they publicly lynch boys for being homosexual, they publicly lash women for the crime of being raped, they stone women to death for infidelity, they censor their news, They beat a Canadian journalist to death because she wrote unflattering stories, they murder political dissidents, invented the suicide bomber, They have kidnapped British sailors and held them hostage....

You are just flat out wrong... Your blame the USA for everything programming doesn't hold up here.

' Henry Ford supplied the Nazi's with jeeps in WWII. '

Wrong... Not after the declaration of war on the US by Germany..

'They just want their region back.'

Iraq doesn't belong to them...Neither does the middle east. They need to figure that out quick.

'Muslims do not want to turn America into a Muslim state.'

Those were bin ladens terms of surrender. That was a major justification for why we were attacked. Because we we are kafur.

'. If America could extract itself from thier land, including all military installations, use the money we would save , Billions, possibly trillions, to develop renewable energy sources at home, we would not need any oof the resources of the Middle East.'

More made up 'facts'. Oil would jump through the roof, we would be abandoning Israel to a pack of hungry dogs (which I am sure you would love) and we would be abandoning the people of the Middle east to the thug theocrats who want to rule them with an iron fist. No... not a good deal for anyone. .

So you are not in the USA then...

'Energy traders, and the oil companies themselves are driving up the prices, not people in Iraq and Iran. '

No, supply disturbances have nothing to do with the price of oil..... Smart guy.
Threats of cutting off the strait of Hormuz don't drive up the price...

America was built BY Christians. Religious freedom means a separation of church and state, not the freedom to threaten our way of life with an alien political philosophy with religious trappings.

'Obviously, I am an Atheist (free thinker)'

You think whatever best confirms your prejudice.

'but I do not have the right to deny your free practice of whatever religion anyone else practices. '

You have the right to protect yourself from it if it becomes a threat.

'Wait, Bush nearly failed out of Yale, when he wasn't powdering his nose or tipping the bottle.'

Again, not true... He got better grades there then Kerry.

This just in from IRAN:

The reformist website Rooz reported on April 5, 2007 that the Friday prayer leader of Shiraz, a city in the heart of Iran, had called for more public punishments, as prescribed by “hodud,” Islamic penal law.

After a convicted thief’s hand was amputated in public in Kermanshah, Ayatollah Mohiyeddin Shirazi, an appointee of the supreme leader of Iran, criticized the halting of public punishments, and added, “Those who say that practices like amputating hands belong to the past are themselves part of the past.” He also claimed that imprisonment had no effect “on educating criminals and reducing crime.” ...

Kermanshah judiciary head Allahyar Malekshahi promised more amputations in the future and said that citizens had requested the public amputation.

According to Rooz, following the punishment Malekshahi told IRNA that the punishment had been approved by Iran’s Supreme Court. He added that if thieves “don’t want their hands cut off, they should stop stealing.” Also, the Etemad daily quoted Kermanshah’s governor as saying that carrying out hodud in public “has a visible effect on controlling the crime rate.”

I am constantly shocked by the level of ignorance, racism and downright stupidity displayed by some Americans in these sorts of comments.

'Nuke them'? Please just get a clue before pressing the little keys.

in response to nottheamericaIknow America was obtained by genocide 120 million people died in north America alone not including south America . where is the truth on that with the world, the biggest war crimes in history dealing with germ warfare then sweep it under the rug rewrite history burn every thing written down, teach for generations lies . seems to a lot of people that the white people want everything very greedy i know not all of them are like that . what happened to 1 world 1 race the master plan was to mix all races to unlock our potential seems to me that will never happen at the rate the world is turning so negative. and with the recent actions buy the Canadian gov branding native people as terrorists , the only people that wont be labeled terrorists are the white people . multicultural say no to racism my ass they are good at it ill give them that . the end is near for our cycle (the human race)the world cannot sustain us to much longer , the thing that gets me is that the world was made to last forever not just 2000 years of consumerism now you tell me that the almighty dollar is good , consumerism is killing the planet. all this bad political relations between different country's it all comes down to control , if who ever is in charge cannot control a country or people they are branded as terrorists, not everyone is the same we the people of this planet of all races and creeds have free will a lot of us think individually a lot of people think they know what is going on but they are scared to say because they feel alone and vulnerable . so unless there is divine intervention of some sort, world catastrophe , alien intervention a world spiritual awakening we are all doomed every man, woman, child, plant, animal, everything. You guys want to talk talk about the truth .
peace out humans

'Freed Iranian diplomat: 'I was kidnapped and tortured by the US'

Sure he was, at such a convinent time as well. Any of you guys notice how well timed this latest allegation by Ahminajihad is, Brit sailors get released after be being forced into making BS confessions, then abraqdabra an Iranian suddenly pops up to claim CIA torture. Add this to the comical coordinate breifing (where the Iranians screw up their own lie) to the so called 'embassy riot' where 200 'young men' (not military in plain cloths of course) trun up with fire crackers to show how upset Iran is ...lol.
If your still with me here, now we can add in the timing of the Hez offensive aginst Israel last yr being the same time as initial sanctions against Iran were being considered by UN(ohh and Syria being accussed of murder, chinless little retard..snigger). Then add in a pinch of denile of suppling arms to shite terror groups in Iraq, plus weapons grade uranium found by UN inspectors on centrifuges that Iran claims was the fault of Pakistain (hehehe) and what do you get?

A big steaming pot of Iranian BS soup.

If you dont want to be rational and think for yourselves by all means declare yourselves enemies of the west, declare war if you like, we repect that. But please quit posting such Rossie O BS about western conspiracy when clearly your paddling along that river in Eygpt...de-nile.
