Palestinian taxi driver killed by Israeli in Tel Aviv
May 14, 2007, 17:35 GMT
Tel Aviv - An Israeli man has admitted to killing Monday a Palestinian taxi driver from East Jerusalem, believed to be about 35 years old, police officials said.
The Israeli man, aged 25, told police he committed the murder because the driver 'was an Arab,' Israel radio reported.
Police officials would only confirm that the 'strong direction' in the investigation was that the motive was 'nationalistic,' but other leads are also being examined.
The man's younger brother was also arrested. Both brothers are new immigrants from France.
The two were arrested after police officers on regular duty noticed them on the street acting suspiciously.
The older brother admitted to the murder of his own accord and led the police to the apartment where they found the body, a police spokesman said.
The driver died of a knife wound to his throat.
It is still unclear why the driver went into the young man's apartment.
