Ahmadeinejad's newest Israel threat: UN council fails to condemn
Jun 8, 2007, 18:23 GMT
New York - The UN Security Council failed to issue Friday a statement to condemn Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's remarks calling for 'the destruction of the Zionist regime.'
The drafted statement was shelved until Monday after Indonesia and Qatar, two of the council's 15 nations, were not ready to endorse it. Diplomats said one of them opposed any condemnation of Ahmadinejad and the other had not received any instructions from his capital, but it was not known which of the countries opposed.
The draft would have the council 'strongly condemn the remarks about the destruction of Israel' attributted to Ahmadinejad.
'The members of the Security Council reaffirm the rights and obligations of the state of Israel as a full and long-standing member of the United Nations, and reaffirm that, under the UN Charter, all members have undertaken to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state,' the draft said.
The UN had condemned Ahmadinejad in the past for his remarks to 'wipe out' Israel from the map of the world. His renewed call for the destruction of Israel was made Sunday.
US Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, who supports the statement, said, 'we cannot be indifferent to threats against another state.'
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon reacted Thursday by saying that he was 'shocked and dismayed' by the latest remark.
He said Israel has the right to exist as any other UN members.

'The members of the Security Council reaffirm the rights and obligations of the state of Israel as a full and long-standing member of the United Nations, and reaffirm that, under the UN Charter'
What a joke. The jew State has ignored more than 100 UN resolutions, the majority of which referred to unacceptable human rights violations. Its American sock puppet sucker has vetoed more 100 more resolutions, the majority of which again condemned the jew State for human rights violations.
Seems to me Ahmadinejad will be doing the world one big favor. Carry on please.
Get a life.
Ban hatred, now. Racial hate filled comments are obsolete and serve no good purpose.
What about Isreal threatening with military attack openely agaisnt Iran? Why everyone is silent on that? This double standard is exactly the problem. So if isreal can launch pr-mptive attack, why can't Iran protect itself with pre-emptive defence or offence? Pre-emptive attack is not USA/isreal domain only anymore. Any country can excercize it.
Mark mt word people, very soon iran will have th capability to build nukes and YOU can do nothing, nothing nothing. Burn in your own anger, bite on fingers but you will HAVE to live with nuclear Iran.
Let me ask bold question: How many of you honestly can digest 150,000 body bags of US military from Iraq in retallation from Iran?.
Shooting on Video games is one ting and real war is different. Oh BTW who begged to Iran to help it solve problems in Iraq? Ahh Short memory eh?. Let me remind: It is USA who begged :) Seems like my comment full of hatred? No, not at all. This is cruel reality which many of you are failing to realize.
