Jun 9, 2007, 8:59 GMT
Tehran - 12 people were killed and nine seriously injured in southern and south-western Iran by Cyclone Gonu, the Mehr news agency reported Saturday.
The head of the emergency department told Mehr that the provinces Hormuzgan and Sistan-Beluchistan were most affected by the cyclone in the past two days.
In the town Jask in Hormuzgan, 70 per cent of the residential units as well as large amounts of farmland were damaged. Nine nearby villages have been hit by flood due to torrential rainfalls in the last 72 hours.
Although the storm has already passed Iran, relief teams were still on alert in the two provinces for aiding residents in flood-hit areas.
