Iran denies financial assistance to Hamas
Jun 24, 2007, 7:55 GMT
Tehran - Iran on Sunday denied rendering any financial assistance to the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas and reiterated once again that its support for the group was merely of a 'spiritual' nature.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said that whatever financial aid rendered by Iran was for the sake of the Palestinian nation and not any particular group.
Tehran had last week called on a comprehensive plan to solve the crisis between the Fatah and Hamas groups, saying that Iran could in no way accept the current situation which it said would help the enemies of the Palestinian nation.
Iran backs the Hamas group, but has constantly denied charges of financial and military support for the radical group.
