Sadrist bloc to resume parliamentary activities, bloc chief says
Jul 17, 2007, 11:35 GMT
Baghdad - The Sadrist bloc has ended its suspended membership of the Iraqi parliament and plans to resume its parliamentary activities soon, independent Voices of Iraq news agency quoted the bloc's chief Nassar al-Rubaie as saying Tuesday.
The suspension was terminated after the bloc's demands were approved during a parliamentary session, al-Rubaie added.
The Sadrists, who belong to the movement of Shiite cleric and militia leader Moqtada al-Sadr, demanded the formation of a committee to supervise the reconstruction of the two Shiite shrines in Samarra, which have been destroyed in recurring attacks.
The Sadrist movement occupies 30 seats in parliament within the Shiite Unified Iraqi Coalition (UIC), the largest bloc with 115 seats.
It suspended its membership after the bombing of the minarets of the two tombs of the al-Askari Imams in Samarra in mid-June.
