Saudi Arabia to build "security wall" along borders with Iraq
Sep 18, 2007, 11:23 GMT
Riyadh - Saudi Arabia is to build a security wall 'soon' along its northern borders with Iraq, according to a statement made by Saudi Interior Minister Prince Naif Bin Abdel-Aziz, local reports said Tuesday.
According to the Saudi-based Arab News newspaper, the grand project is aimed at securing the 900-kilometre desert stretch along the border with Iraq by preventing the passage of militants and illegal foreigners into the kingdom.
The project comes as Saudi Arabia is increasingly worried that the turmoil in Iraq could cause 'an overspill of sectarian violence and terrorism' into its own territories, according to the paper.
'The protection line will represent two rows of barbed wire equipped with the newest radar and infrared viewing devices,' Mansur al-Turki, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, had told Arab News earlier. Cost of the wall is estimated at four billion Saudi Riyals.
Five major Saudi Arabian companies are currently bidding for the project. The contract for construction 'will be awarded soon,' according to the interior minister.

This wall is not meant to keep Iraqi's out of Saudi but to stop the flood of Saudi Terrorist from going to Iraq. 25% of all forien fighters in Iraq are from Saudi Arabia. In his book 'Paramedic to the Prince' a great book written by an American Paramedic who was on the medical team of King Abdullah. He writes about Prince Naif and how anti-american he is. He was quoted by the Arab news and saying the 9/11 attacks were the work of American and Jewish factions of the Bush administration. I urge you all to read this book which gives the best insight into Saudi Arabia that I have ever read. It has been given a five star rating by Amazon and B&N really opened my eyes to the reality of a country that Ameruican conciders an Ally. Give me a break..
We invaded the wrong country.
