Iran releases last Iranian-American scholar on bail
Sep 25, 2007, 8:24 GMT
Tehran - The Iranian judiciary on Tuesday confirmed the release of the last jailed Iranian-American scholar Ali Shakeri on a bail amounting to 1 billion rials (about 107,000 dollars), ISNA news agency reported.
Shakeri, a peace activist, was released on Monday night after having spent a four and half month jail-term on espionage charges but it is not yet clear whether he may also return home to the US, ISNA said.
Two other Iranian-American scholars - Haleh Esfandiari and Kian Tajbakhsh - and journalist Parnaz Azima were jailed on the same charges but released earlier this month.
Esfandiari and Azima have already returned home but Tajbakhsh is still in Tehran.
