Israeli forces nab Hamas commander in Nablus
Oct 20, 2007, 9:35 GMT
Ramallah - The Israeli army arrested five Palestinians early Saturday in the West Bank city of Nablus, including a senior Hamas commander, Palestinian security and Hamas sources said.
The security sources added that nine Israeli military vehicles, including tanks, rolled into the city and headed for Balata refugee camp in the east of the city, storming houses and detaining the suspected militants.
The Islamic Hamas movement said that among the detainees was Khaled Darouza, 28, a commander within the Ezz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades, the faction's military wing.
The movement added in a statement that Israeli forces have been hunting Darouza for eight months and demolished his house in the city three weeks ago.
Israeli troops continue to enter West Bank cities and villages almost every night and arrest people despite repeated promises to ease the daily life of the Palestinians.
