Gaza explosion kills at least four (Roundup)
Oct 27, 2007, 13:08 GMT
Gaza City - At least four Palestinians were killed Saturday when an explosion rocked a house in the south-eastern Gaza Strip, residents and security sources said.
A Hamas spokesman claimed the blast was caused by an Israeli missile, but Israel denied any involvement.
'The explosion was a result of an Israeli ground-to-ground missile that landed on a house in al-Qarrara area to the east of Khan Younis city in southern Gaza Strip,' spokesman Ihab al-Ghussein said.
However, an Israeli army spokesman told radio of Israel that the army had nothing to do with the blast, adding that a bomb or explosives went off inside the house.
Palestinian hospital officials said a wounded woman had died in the afternoon, raising the initial death toll from three to four.
The officials also corrected earlier reports of the dead, saying all were females, including a four-year-old girl. The other initial casualties were 17 and 19, and the woman who died later was 42.
