Tehran - A commander of the Iranian paramilitary Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) threatened the United States and Israel with suicide commandos in the Persian Gulf in case of a military attack, Fars news agency reported Monday.
'If the enemies committed the grave stupidity of realising their military threats against Iran, then we would, besides our progressive logistics, use martyrdom tactics as well,' General Ali Fadavi, deputy of the IRGC navy, told Fars.
The general said that Iran had sufficient experience from the war against Iraq (1980-1988), 'and one of the secrets of our success then was the culture of sacrifice.'
Fadavi added that the IRGC and the Basiji (voluntary) forces have a close cooperation 'which would be put into practice in case of an attack.'
The IRGC reportedly has over 120,000 forces and Iran claims to have millions of Basijs who would enter military service in case of a military aggression against Iran.
Many Basijis consider martyrdom as a way to go to heaven.
Although top Iranian officials do not believe in a US or Israeli military strike on Iran's nuclear plants, they have warned of harsh retaliation if such attacks took place.
