Iraqi minister's guards injured in attack on his Baghdad home
Dec 4, 2007, 9:14 GMT
Baghdad - An attack on the home of Iraq's Minister of Electricity in east Baghdad Tuesday left two of his guards injured, according to a ministry source.
'Gunmen in a car fired shots at the home of the Minister of Electricity Karim Wahid,' the source told the Voices of Iraq VOI news agency.
The minister was not home but two of his guards were injured in the attack, the source said.
Wahid is a member of Iraq's ruling Shiite United Iraqi Alliance.
In southern Iraq, gunmen shot dead a physical education teacher in the presence of his students on Monday, police sources told VOI.
The teacher worked in Ali al-Hadi preparatory school in the Qibla district of Basra, 550 kilometres south of Baghdad.
A British parliamentary report released Monday said Basra was dominated by militias and the police contained 'murderous' and 'corrupt' elements.
The relative security of Basra did not mean that the root causes of violence have been addressed, the report said.
