Baghdad delighted with rare snowfall

Baghdad - The Iraqi capital Baghdad received Friday a rare sprinkling of snow which delighted its residents although it melted rapidly.
Freezing temperatures broke the monotony of the relatively warm winter of Baghdad with snow falling overnight and Friday morning for the first time in living memory.
'It was very beautiful. I have never seen snow falling and piling up except on TV,' 21-year-old Malak Hussein said.
In colder northern Iraq, where temperatures usually drop to far below zero in winter, heavy snowfall over the last few days left Kirkuk, Sulaymanyah and Arbil coated with a blanket of snow as thick as 35 centimetres.
Public transport was left paralysed in many parts of northern Iraq.
