Diplomats: EU foreign ministers to focus on Gaza
Jan 25, 2008, 14:47 GMT
Brussels - The European Union's foreign ministers are set to focus on the situation in Gaza when they hold a regular meeting in Brussels on Monday, diplomats said.
The 27 ministers' discussions on the Middle East peace process will 'focus a lot on the situation in Gaza,' as well as discussing recent Israeli settlement activity, sources at the EU's presidency - currently held by Slovenia - said.
They are also set to discuss proposals from the European Commission - the EU's executive - for a new system of delivering EU aid to the Palestinian territories, diplomats said.
That system is meant to upgrade the current policy of giving emergency aid such as fuel and social-security payments, by also targeting longer-term projects to improve social and economic conditions in the Palestinian areas.
The ministers are also expected to discuss the political situation surrounding Lebanon's postponed presidential elections.
