Jordan Islamists: US responsible for bloody downturn in Lebanon
Jan 28, 2008, 18:33 GMT
Amman - Jordan's largest political party, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), on Monday held the United States 'responsible' for Sunday's deterioration in the Lebanese crisis when at least nine people were killed in protests over power cuts.
'Those who came from oversees should bear a great responsibility for what is happening in Lebanon,' the IAF said in a statement.
It contended that the 'anarchy and vacuum experienced by Lebanon at the time being' was a product of US President George W Bush's policies which was meeting 'failure' not only in Lebanon but also in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan.
The IAF, the political arm of the influential Muslim Brotherhood movement, appealed to all Lebanese political groupings to 'let Lebanon's supreme interests prevail' instead of dependence on foreign support.
