British journalist, interpreter abducted in southern Iraq (Extra)

Baghdad - A British journalist and his interpreter were abducted near a hotel in central Basra, the Voices of Iraq VOI news agency reported Monday.
'Gunmen in two cars kidnapped the English journalist, Butler Richard of CBS and his interpreter and took them to an unknown place,' Basra police sources told VOI.
The kidnapping occurred Sunday evening.
Both men, who were on assignment, were staying at the Qasr al- Sultan hotel in Basra, 590 kilometres south of Baghdad.
