Feb 13, 2008, 12:07 GMT
Jerusalem - Israel Wednesday denied accusations that it was involved in the assassination of top Hezbollah leader Imad Mugniyah.
'Israel rejects the attempt by terrorist elements to implicate it in this event,' an official government statement sent to reporters said.
Israel first learned about the assassination from reports in the international media in the last few hours, the statement said.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's spokesman, Mark Regev, and Foreign Ministry Spokesman Arieh Mekel, earlier declined to comment.
