South Africa ruling party condemns Israeli blockade of Gaza
Mar 6, 2008, 14:47 GMT
Johannesburg - South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) on Thursday called for an end to Israel's blockade of Gaza, calling it a 'flagrant breach of international law.'
In a statement the ANC also deplored Israel's 'senseless killing' of Palestinian civilians and called for a resumption of Israel- Palestinian peace talks.
'The denial of basic foodstuff and health-care provisions and the continuing bombardment of civilian areas is unacceptable. The blockade of the Palestinian territories, and Gaza in particular, is a flagrant breach of international law,' the ANC said.
Over 120 Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers have been killed in a week-long Israeli air and ground incursion into the Gaza strip triggered by Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel.
