Rice heading to Mideast for talks on Iraq

Washington - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will travel to Bahrain and Kuwait later this month for talks on the conflict in Iraq and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, the State Department said Wednesday.
Rice will be in Bahrain on April 21 for a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council plus Jordan and Egypt before attending a gathering of regional foreign ministers to discuss Iraq on April 22, spokesman Sean McCormack said.
Rice will be seeking get stronger support for the Iraqi government and to get more Arab backing for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, he said.
Rice 'will also raise the importance of Arab states supporting those discussions and supporting the Palestinian negotiators as they go through this process,' McCormack said.
