IPI condemns killing in Gaza of Reuters cameraman

Apr 17, 2008, 22:55 GMT

Vienna - The International Press Institute (IPI), a group of editors, executives and journalists from around the media world, condemned Thursday the killing of a Reuters cameraman in the Gaza Strip by Israeli forces.

Fadel Shana was killed by an Israeli tank shell on Wednesday during a military incursion into the Gaza Strip.

'IPI condemns this killing in the strongest possible terms and calls on the Israeli military to conduct an independent, timely and transparent investigation into the incident,' IPI Director David Dadge said.

The Israeli military has said the target of the shelling was not the vehicle but militants in the area and expressed 'regret' for Shana's death. But a spokeswoman added the incident occurred in a 'fighting zone.'

The IPI said Shana was in a vehicle clearly marked with a 'flourescent press sign' and that journalists should be protected as civilians under the Geneva Convention.

The IPI, which brings together journalists from 120 countries, said video footage from Shana's camera showed a tank open fire and a shell explode in mid-air. Metal darts from the tank shell killed the cameraman and injured a Reuters soundwoman, IPI said, according to the Shifa hospital in Gaza.

Give me a break. Hamas fighters will drive in marked ambulances, press cars, dress as woman, or whatever else would give them an oppurtunity to kill jews. I find it very queer that Hamas can just lob whatever explosive they can manage to launch to land randomly whereever and nobody seems to object. It's a damn shame the reporter from Reuters got killed but it's obviously very dangerous to get in the middle of a fire fight. The Palestines lost the war 60 years ago and keep trying to win it back. What a bunch of f ing idots. After 60 years you should move on seems like the muslims in general are just hell bent on killing and falling further and further into mindless violence. Good Luck in Gaza maybe if the population tried to build something or produce something they would'nt be such a miserable people. It's easy for Hamas to destroy their own country and beg for food, fuel, from the people they keep trying to kill.

The Israeli IDF and military probably killed the Reuter's reporter in cold murder to prevent him from reporting the truth about what he witnessed in Gaza. There is a good chance the Reuter's reporter witnessed the Israeli state supported genocide of the Palestinian people via starvation, refused medical care, disease, abject poverty, and internal violence, as well as airstrikes. People forget that the Israeli military deliberately killed approximately 40 american servicemen and seriously wounded 77 in its attack on the USS Liberty. Israel killed the servicemen to prevent them from exposing its pre-emptive strike on Egypt which started the 1967 wars.

the news reporter is part of the countless genocides being done
Apparently the only policy isreal has is Build walls and starve people and kill 50 to 1 ratio in all occasions no matter the reasons

IF you break a mans house steal his land send his family to jail and kill his people like cattle and take away his rights. then expect them not to like you ..
Hypocrisy is that simply because they claim they have right to own isreal doesnt give them the right to create genocide and to force others into semi slavery
USing the most latests tecnology And advanced equipments on a people who for 60 years never had a organized military
and given all that i would be suprised he wouldnt fight back with his own under powered means

The Founding fathers of america were all known as Terrorists by the british
