Iran to resume nuclear talks with IAEA next week, says spokesman

May 11, 2008, 6:21 GMT

Tehran - Nuclear talks with the United Nations nuclear watchdog would be resumed next week, the spokesman of the Iranian foreign ministry said Sunday.

Mohammad-Ali Hosseini told reporters in Tehran that the formation of the IAEA delegation was not yet clear.

An IAEA delegation headed by chief inspector Olli Heinonen visited Tehran twice last month and discussed allegations that Iran pursued secret weapons studies and next week's visit is expected to be focused on the same issue.

Asked about the upgraded incentive offer by the United Nations Security Council's permanent members and Germany, aimed at persuading Iran to suspend uranium enrichment activities, the spokesman said that no offer has yet been received.

He also said that Tehran has not received any indications that the offer would be delivered by European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

While calling on the West not to repeat its previous policies, Hosseini once again stressed that Iran would not accept any conditions by the West but insist on its 'irrevocable right' to continue civil nuclear projects, including uranium enrichment.

The spokesman also referred to the Iranian proposal package and said that it would be forwarded to the world powers once the package was completed.

The rather ambiguous package reportedly contains a new initiative by Tehran aimed at amending the global status quo and apparently also includes a solution for settling the nuclear dispute.

Iran should never give up its nuclear program as long as Israel has nuclear bombs. Israel shows its arab neighbors every day by its behavior that it has nuclear bombs and as the 4th most powerful military in the world can do with them as it chooses. Iran should take heed and work to build up its military and to get nuclear bombs, regardless of the consequences.
