Iran congratulates Lebanon's president-elect Suleiman (Roundup)

May 26, 2008, 5:47 GMT

Tehran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad congratulated Michel Suleiman on his election as Lebanon's new president, official news agency IRNA reported Monday.

In a phone contact with Suleiman on Sunday night, Ahmadinejad said that Lebanon would move towards stability and reassured the new president that Iran would always stand besides the Lebanese nation.

While appreciating Iran's efforts in resolving the crisis in his country, IRNA quoted Suleiman as saying that any discord in Lebanon would just benefit Israel.

Ahmadinejad also phoned the head of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, and congratulated him on the election of a new president in Lebanon.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said the election of Suleiman was a big victory for Lebanon, ISNA news agency reported earlier Monday.

ISNA quoted Mottaki as saying that following Suleiman's election a new chapter has been opened in the history of Lebanon.

Suleiman took the oath of office as the 12th president on Sunday, filling a post left vacant for six months and ending a political crisis that threatened a new civil war.

I pray Lebanon people will live in peace and will newer forget Hizbullah or Iran and their support against criminal Zionists living in 'Palestine province' called Israel.Us and Zionist are very angry now and I pray for safety of new president as Zionists are leading sponsors of terror in Middle East.I also hope that new gowernment will not role red carped for criminals like Bush /greatly responsible for distruction of Lebanon in 2006/, but turn to Russia instead. Zionism has nothing to do with Judaism and its the greatest sickness of Middle East- Its like CANCER and is very dangerous to whole humanity. Middle East free of Zionists would be one of the safests places on earth.

The election of Sulemein is a sign of increasing Hizbollah, and thus Iranian dominance of Lebanon. It is a defeat for the United States and the West. And it does not promise Peace for the Lebanese future but rather increased intimidation of other groups in Lebanon by Hizbollah.
