EU, US to seek financial squeeze on Iran (Extra)
Jun 10, 2008, 11:19 GMT
Brdo, Slovenia - The European Union and the United States agreed to tighten the squeeze on Iran's financial links to disrupt its alleged support of terrorism and nuclear proliferation, according to a draft statement at an EU-US summit Tuesday.
US President George W Bush and top EU officials renewed a demand for Iran to verifiably suspend uranium enrichment, warning that 'we are ready to supplement (UN) sanctions with additional measures,' the document said.
Both sides would work together 'to take steps to ensure Iranian banks cannot abuse the international banking system to support proliferation and terrorism,' said the draft obtained by Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Bush were scheduled to announce the summit results later Tuesday after the talks at a secluded castle in Slovenia, which holds the rotating EU presidency.

US gagging order ' prevents discussion 'Jun 10th, 2008 - 18:33:09
'It may well turn out to be the largest war profiteering in history.'
A BBC investigation estimates that around $23bn (£11.75bn) may have been lost, stolen or just not properly accounted for in Iraq.
For the first time, the extent to which some private contractors have profited from the conflict and rebuilding has been researched by the BBC's Panorama using US and Iraqi government sources.
A US gagging order is preventing discussion of the allegations.
The order applies to 70 court cases against some of the top US companies.
War profiteering
While George Bush remains in the White House, it is unlikely the gagging orders will be lifted.

Iran is in the grips of an illegitimate regime with many nefarious intentions.
Hanging would be far too kind a fate for the falsely pious clerics of Tehran.
May Allah grant all necessary assistance to those inside and outside of Iran who seek to overthrow and put on trial for crimes against humanity this odious pack of hyenas, er, clerics.

Iran should never give up its nuclear energy/nuclear weapons program until Israel destroys its nukes. Israel with its 5 or 6 million Jews should never be allowed control of the Middle East, which is home to about a billion Iranian and arab people. Iran should pull out of the NPT and stop cooperation with the IAEA and UN, and answer all questions about a nuclear weapons program with a denial that it has an interest in getting nuclear weapons.
