House passes spending bill for Iraq, Afghan wars
Jun 20, 2008, 0:53 GMT
Washington - The US House of Representatives on Thursday passed a 162-billion-dollar measure to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and for education benefits for veterans of the ongoing conflicts.
The House passed the measure 268-155 after weeks of tough negotiations with US President George W Bush, who opposed spending extra money beyond what is needed for the wars.
The White House relented after the centre-left Democratic majority agreed to remove some domestic spending but kept the veterans' education package, which Bush had opposed.
The Senate is expected to take up similar legislation next week.

Our country's gov't is broken. Who are the real prisoners of war? Yea, it is the citizens of the US. THANK you gov't, for exploiting us for your gain.
Far worse than the Nixon Watergate era, when 'there was a cancer on the presidency' --- today with this two-party 'Vichy' corrupt and complicit government, 'there is a cancer on the whole government'.
...sure glad we're winning!

This bill also includes four weeks off with pay and 8 weeks off without pay for federal employees. No, I don't think that this privilege has been extended to military personnel.
