Hezbollah hand Israel new report on aviator Ron Arad
Jul 12, 2008, 18:22 GMT
Tel Aviv - The Lebanese Hezbollah militia Saturday handed over to Israel a new report on the fate on Israeli aviator Ron Arad, who went missing 22 years ago.
Israeli media reports were quoting Hezbollah as saying Arad was probably dead - but the latest document gave no scientific proof of his fate, nor any explanation of why no body was ever found.
The report was a condition for a planned prisoner swap between Israel and Hezbollah which Israeli and Lebanese officials said Friday could take place in the middle of next week.
The deal involves two abducted Israeli soldiers believed to be dead, in exchange for five Lebanese prisoners and the bodies of some 199 militants and Hezbollah fighters killed in action and buried at a special cemetery in northern Israel.
