India concerned over threat to use military force against Iran
Jul 14, 2008, 13:46 GMT
New Delhi - India on Monday expressed grave concern over reports that suggest the imminent use of military force against Iran, an External Affairs Ministry statement said.
The United States has said military action is an option if Iran continues uranium enrichment activities, which it suspects are aimed at making nuclear weapons. Iran denies this.
Without naming the United States or Israel, an Indian External Affairs Ministry statement said: 'India is gravely concerned at these statements threatening the use of military force against Iran.
'India is against any such military attack, which constitutes unacceptable international behavior. There is no military solution to the issues that are being discussed between Iran and the international community.'
The statement added that India continued to support negotiations and diplomacy.
A military strike on Iran would have disastrous consequences for the entire region and the world economy, the statement said. It said the lives and livelihood of five million Indians resident in the Gulf would be affected.
'India calls upon all concerned governments to exercise restraint and choose the peaceful path of persuasion and negotiations,' the statement said.

Indeed those miltary threats concern nothing more than 'suspicion' that Iran might use nuclear power to build a nuclear ardenal .The very fact that all intelligence gathering agencies concluded that this was unlikely as Iran halted work on military implementations of nuclear power seems to have gone unnoiced in the Whit House .Bush suffers from 'wishful thinking' ,he wants to believe Iran is building nuclear weapons, regardless of all informations suggesting the opposite.Just like with the pretext of WMD for the invasion of Iraq all elements of realit are eluded in this scenario. No wonder the USA is becoming the paria in international politics .It is time for the american people to elect somebody capable of mending the wounds, baseing politics on a realistic perception of the international situation. In this highly complex world everything is to be gained from international cooperation .
