Concessions would not change world's policy toward Iran: Khamenei
Jul 30, 2008, 11:24 GMT
Tehran - Iran's supreme leader said Wednesday that world powers would not change their policies towards Iran even if Tehran made concessions on its nuclear dispute with them.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the view that Iranian concessions on its nuclear programme would lead world powers to change their policy towards Iran 'totally irrational and wrong.'
The international community is awaiting Iran's reply to the latest Western-proposed package, under which it is to choose between suspending uranium enrichment and receiving economic incentives in return, or not suspending and facing further financial sanctions.
Concessions in the nuclear dispute would only lead to further demands by the five UN veto powers plus Germany (5+1), state television quoted the Ayatollah as saying. He did not elaborate what those further demands would be.
Under Iran's constitution, Ayatollah Khamenei has the final say on all state affairs. So far, he has shown himself uncompromising in the nuclear dispute.
His remarks on Wednesday indicated Iran would eventually not accept the 5+1 incentive package.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has also rejected enrichment suspension. But he has vowed to continue talks with the 5+1, including with arch-foe the United States, all beit while rejecting any ultimatum set for them.
Washington said after the July 19 talks in Geneva between Iran and the 5+1 powers that Tehran had two weeks to reply to the offer. That deadline is due to expire Saturday.

Duh.......I agree TOTALLY with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.... Look at the history of the Iraq war.....They put sanctions on Iraq...and demanded they disARM.......So Iraq got rid of all the weapons that were forbidden.....Next there was a DEMAND they get rid of weapons beyond the scope of the first demands......Iraq reluctantly destroyed those short range weapons too.....All the while Iraq was making itself weaker & weaker.....Then the U.N. sent inspectors, but BEFORE THE INSPECTIONS were COMPLETED, a 'COALITION' of WarCriminals ILLEGALLY ATTACKED IRAQ!! Khamenei is correct there is no SATISFYING the NeoCon Cabal that is currently affecting policy WORLDWIDE.....Working to DIVIDE hapless Muslims WORLDWIDE, threats, BRIBES, WAR are tools....Only problem is the old adage......You can fool (911) all the people some of the time, and some of the people (Bubbas) all the time, but you can't fool all the people (world) all the time...............
The very idea that Israel and the USA who have 11,000 thermonuclear weapons, antimissile systems, stealth technology, and second strike nuclear submarines are facing and Iranian existential threat is only so stupid a neocon could believe it. Iran is no threat to America, they are a threat to Israel's nuclear monopoly and sorry I don't think that Israel's nuclear monopoly is worth a global economic depression and region wide religious war. After all, Iran hasn't invaded anyone in two centuries while poor 'threatened' Israel and America launch wars and invasions more often than most people change socks. The first shot anyone fires on Iran we will see oil surge to 250$ and higher. This will create and economic panic and collapse on a global scale. Israeli military supremacy in the middle east is simply not worth it. And it is quite clear based on all the facts that Israel and America are not facing any prospects of being wiped out by Iran.
