Policeman wounded, wife killed in attack in Iraq

Baghdad - Gunmen raided the home of a high-ranking police officer, wounding him and killing his wife during the early hours of Sunday in a house raid in Iraq's Kut city.
The injured officer, Khudier Abbas was rushed to hospital from his house in al-Izzat area in Kut, some 170 kilometres south-east the Iraqi capital Baghdad, a police source said on condition of anonymity told the Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency.
Police cordoned off the area surrounding the house in an attempt to catch the attackers who fled the crime scene.
In another attack, unidentified gunmen in Balad Roz village in Iraq's central province of Diyala drove 46 families out of their houses, reported VOI.
Three houses were damaged in the area, lawmaker Abdel-Aziz al- Hakim told VOI.
Also on Sunday, police found the bodies of two persons bearing gunshot wounds in al-Raay area in southern Baghdad, an unidentified source told VOI.
