Israel slams Ahmadinejad UN speech, calls for more sanctions

Sep 24, 2008, 13:33 GMT

Jerusalem - Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni slammed Wednesday a speech to the United Nations by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and called for more international pressure to be applied to Tehran to force it to halt its nuclear programme.

The Iranian president, in his address to the United Nations on Tuesday, said that a 'small, deceitful number of people called Zionists' were 'playing with the dignity, integrity and rights of the American and European people.

The Zionists, he said, have been 'dominating an important portion of the financial and monetary centres as well as the political decision-making centres of some European countries and the US in a deceitful, complex and furtive manner.'

Ahmadinejad's remarks at the UN, Livni said in a strongly-worded statement, 'demonstrates the absurd state of affairs of the organization whose founding motto was 'never again.''

Livni, who has been charged by President Shimon Peres to form a new Israeli government, also said criticised Iran's request to be allowed to sit on the Security Council, saying it was akin to 'allowing a criminal to be his own judge and jury.'

'This is an unprecedented absurdity - for a state that is threatening the security of its neighbours and calling for the destruction of another state to be a member of the body whose goal is to maintain international peace and security,' she said.

'Iran is the subject of Security Council sanctions because it pursues a nuclear weapons programme and supplies weapons to terrorist organizations, thereby violating numerous Security Council resolutions.

'Responsible countries cannot support Iran's membership in the body responsible for the implementation of those same sanctions,' Livni went on.

'What is needed now,' she said, 'is to apply international pressure on Iran which would leave no doubt as to the price involved in ignoring the demands of the international community - rather than including Iran in the very body that is spearheading this action.'

Israel regards Iran is its biggest existential threat because of Tehran nuclear programme, and because of repeated statements by Iranian leaders, including Ahmadinejad, that the Jewish state should be erased from the map.

Ahmadinejad is wrong on at least two statements made at the U.N. yesterday. One, The United States of America is and has been the most successful republic in modern History. As a republic, it has no equal in longevity. Arguably, there have been more enduring nations but these have not been in as single and uninterrupted FORM for 221 consecutive years and counting. Secondly, the United States are not nor have ever been an empire. Ahmadinejad has been to (a) college and should be ashamed of his lack of intellect in not knowing (and stating) the difference between a republic and an empire.
In addition, the United States is just beginning to become its greatest in prominence and has proven so in its ability to both come to the aid of hundreds of nations who have suffered natural disasters and political ones and asked for help from the U.S. and GOT it at critical moments in World history. The Iranian leaders country is in far more trouble than he admits and he flirts with near annihilation with his inflammatory rhetoric. He is running a 'Theocracy' and not a true sovereign nation where its leaders are held responsible for their words and deeds. Of course, Ahmadinejad IS running for reelection right now and his cheap grandstanding is transparent. The U.N., by the way, is no longer
a really relevent world class entity as can be attested to by the weak leadership it has endured in the past twenty five years.

The terrorists should talk. It was his country Iran that was the great Meado-Persian Empire. They conquered and took nations at their will. They were so feared because many who taken prisoner were skinned alive. These people come from a line of blood-thirsty cut throats and they ahve never changed.

President Ahmadinejad spoke the truth about Israel and the US. Israel is a racist, terrorist, state that has brought nothing but conflict, death, and destruction to the Middle East. Israel has had over 70+ UN Resolutions passed against it for atrocities and war crimes committed against the Palestinians and arab people. Israel has been condemned by the UN numerous times for murdering innocent palestinian women and children, and stealing palestinian land. It is only because of the veto power of the US in the UN that Israel has not been punished for its atrocities and war crimes, and allowed to continue. The US uses its clout and money to entice arab countries, as Egypt and Jordan, to hold peace agreements with Israel and keep Israel in the Middle East.

President Ahmadinejad is right to expose Israel for the brutal, oppressive, racist, apartheid, state it is, and remind the world that Israel is using the Palestinians to build its own holocaust. President Ahmadinejad is also right that Israel's will follow the same path as South Africa, the Soviet Union, and other countries that have been brought down by outside force or internal force. No injustice or lie can live forever!!1
