US court martial jails soldier for eight months for Baghdad murder
Oct 2, 2008, 15:13 GMT
Berlin - A US court martial on Thursday jailed a soldier, Steven Ribordy, 25, for eight months for his role in the murders of Iraqis near Baghdad in March or April of 2007.
The court at a US base in Vilseck, Germany gave him a reduced sentence because he has agreed to testify against the main accused. He pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact.
Five other soldiers from the 1st battalion of the US Army 18th infantry regiment have yet to be tried.
They are alleged to have shot dead Iraqi men after they had been tied up and to have dumped the bodies in a canal near the Iraqi capital.
