Syrian government closes US school, cultural centre (Roundup)

Oct 28, 2008, 16:07 GMT

Damascus - In what appeared to be a Syrian response to the US commando raid inside Syria, the Damascus government ordered Tuesday the closure of the US cultural centre and the American school in Damascus.

'The Syrian Cabinet decided to close the American school and cultural centre in Damascus,' the Syrian news agency SANA reported.

The cabinet, in its weekly meeting on Tuesday headed by Prime Minister Naji Ottari, asked the Ministers of Education and Culture to take the needed procedures to implement the decision in coordination with the relevant circles.

The move comes amid the controversy and outrage in Syria over the helicopter-borne US military raid on a remote border region village on Sunday in which the US said it killed an Iraqi militant. Syria's state-run media said eight civilians, including four children, were killed in the raid.

The cabinet also decided to postpone the meeting of the High Syrian-Iraqi Committee which was due to be held in Baghdad on November 12-13.

It also condemned the aggression which claimed the lives of several innocent citizens and wounding several others.

The cabinet expressed its denunciation over the statements by the spokesman for the Iraqi government and 'his justification for this aggression which was launched from the Iraqi territories against a neighbouring Arab country.'

I-bin FartenOct 29th, 2008 - 10:13:39

Hello my name is I-bin Farten

I sat up the other night with three Syrians discussing the muslim paradox. We have had long talks about being a muslim. Being a Muslim in Syria today is very exacting and demanding. There are just so many masters. You got Allah of course, than the family Imam . Then the Terrorist group leader and if that wasn't bad enough you our 'president' who thinks he is part of a dynasty and should be a king for life, oh we do not have elections so I guess he is ???. Then you have your local leaders and finally Al Qaeda....All bossing us around. It just never ends, and what's worse is that they all have their preverbal hand in your pocket........If you know what I mean..wink wink;>)

Finally, I can not forget my dear wife (my second cousin) no wonder she wears a rag over her head. She looks like the back end of my camel. Why could I not have had a Brittney Spears or Jane Fonda... Oh boy...what's a muslim to do????

No wonder so many of my people elect o blow-up. Wouldn't you?

Remember if you think the muslims stink it is because I-bin Farten!

Just repeat after me there are no terrorists in Syria ...nope no one there except us God loving muslims yep peace to all brother. Unless you are a Jew a Christian a Hindu etc...get the picture!
