Iran tests new missile

Tehran - Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) tested a new ground-to-ground missile, state news agency IRNA reported Wednesday.
IRNA quoted Defence Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najar as saying that the new generation of the Sejil-type missiles was successfully tested.
The new missile burns combined solid fuel and is supposed to be just preventive, the minister said without giving any details on time and venue of the test nor the range of the missile.
The IRGC launched last July an upgraded version of the Shahab-3 missile, which reportedly has a range of up to 2,000 kilometres and is capable of hitting targets in Israel and Persian Gulf-based US warships.
Iran has several times stressed that the locally made military equipment, including its missiles, would just be for defensive purposes and that the country would never use them against other countries.
