Baghdad - Explosions struck several army patrols on Thursday in different parts of Iraq, killing nine soldiers and injuring another six, said police sources.
Bombs ripped through two army vehicles in Iraq's Diyala province on Thursday, killing six Iraqi soldiers and injuring three, the Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency reported
The bombs hit the cars in the town of Jalawla, some 57 kilometres north of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad
Although security forces have secured most of Iraq's 18 provinces, Baghdad and Diyala remain a challenge.
In Kirkuk, a bomb ripped through an army patrol, killing three Iraqi soldiers and injuring three others, police said.
The bomb struck the army patrol on the road between Kirkuk and Tikrit, both to Baghdad's north, General Ali Abdullah told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. Police and army patrols are a common target for militants in Iraq
Meanwhile, US forces in Iraq said on Thursday that a US soldier was shot in northern Iraq on Tuesday, the second soldier killed since the beginning of the year.
