Sana'a, Yemen - The bombing that killed four South Korean tourists and a Yemeni guide in south-eastern Yemen on Sunday was a suicide attack by an al-Qaeda operative, security sources said on Monday.
The sources said police investigations concluded that a suicide attacker blew himself up among a group of 17 tourists from South Korea as they were touring a mountain overlooking the historical city of Shibam.
'Primary investigation concluded that s suicide bomber with an explosive belt carried out the attack,' a security source told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
'This carries the hallmark of al-Qaeda,' added the source, who asked not to be named.
Four South Korean tourists, including two women, were killed after an explosive device went off as a three-car tourist convoy made its way through the area.
Five other Koreans and three Yemenis were injured, a security source said in a statement carried by the official Saba news agency.
