Al-Maliki in Moscow seeks closer relations with Russia
Apr 10, 2009, 14:35 GMT
Moscow - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Friday in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin requested greater investment by Russian firms in Iraq.
According to the Interfax news agency, Putin agreed to help in the building of a 'strong and independent Iraq.'
In the first visit by an Iraqi prime minister to Moscow since the overthrow of the Saddam Hussein dictatorship, al-Maliki is also expected to visit Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Russia came out sharply against the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, which toppled Saddam Hussein.

'Strong and independent' Hm....so far not strong and not independent. A puppet government dependent for its protection on the United States. Currently still in turmoil. This week five US soldiers killed. The struggle for independence is still on-going and will be for years to come.

While we're making enemies, the Russians are making friends.
The future is theirs - we gifted it to them.
