Clinton arrives in Beirut on surprise visit
Apr 26, 2009, 8:36 GMT
Beirut - US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton arrived Sunday in Beirut in a surprise vist in which she will meet Lebanese officials, a government source said.
Clinton is expected to start her meetings in Beirut by meeting Lebanese president Michel Suleiman, the source said.
Clinton arrived amid heavy security measures adopted by the Lebanese army near Beirut International airport.
Prior to her arrival in Lebanon, the new US Secretary of State had been in Kuwait and Iraq. In Baghdad on Saturday, she had met with top Iraqi leaders and assured them of continued US support for Iraq even as it withdrew combat troops.
