Lebanon's former president undergoes heart catheterization
May 5, 2009, 15:12 GMT
Beirut - Lebanon's former president and current head of the Christian Phalange Party, Amin Gemayel, has successfully undergone heart catheterization, a source close to Gemayel said Tuesday.
'The investigatory procedure to measure how well the heart is pumping was done at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Beirut and the (former) president is in perfect health,' the source said.
Gemayel, 67, was rushed to hospital suffering from chest pains on Monday, local radio stations reported.
He served as Lebanon's president from 1982 to 1988. The Phalange Party is part of an anti-Syrian parliamentary majority coalition.
The coalition is expected to be involved in a tight race against the Hezbollah-led opposition in parliamentary elections on June 7.
