Pope leaves Israel for return to Rome (Extra)

Tel Aviv - Pope Benedict XVI's plane took off for Rome Friday, ending a landmark eight-day pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
Clasping both hands together and bowing, the pontiff boarded the El Al Israeli Airlines plane after an official ceremony at Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion International Airport, where Israeli President Shimon Peres, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, cabinet ministers and religious officials bade him farewell.
