Brown to announce Iraq inquiry
Jun 15, 2009, 12:51 GMT
London - Prime Minister Gordon Brown was Monday due to announce details of a long-awaited inquiry into Britain's involvement in the Iraq conflict.
Brown's statement to parliament is expected to focus on the all- important question of the remit and nature of such an inquiry, which is due to be held after the final withdrawal of British troops at the end of July.
Critics have said that a public inquiry should examine the process of political decision-making in the run-up to the 2003 invasion and investigate the apparent lack of a 'post-invasion' strategy by the Anglo-American coalition.
The families of some of the 179 British Iraq victims have called for a public inquiry at which witnesses can be heard.
