The SOFA will expire July 31, 2009 if it isn't referendum ratified or cancelled prior to expiration with a 12 month notice, neither of which seems likely to occure. At expiration Iraq will be independent and the occupation force will lose its's legal authority to be in Iraq and will need to leave.
