UN tribunal for Lebanon launches website for information
Jun 25, 2009, 15:20 GMT
Beirut - The Office of the Prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) on Thursday announced the launch of a new website for individuals who have useful information concerning the court's investigation into the 2005 assassination of ex-premier Rafik Hariri.
According to local Lebanese media, the website is available in the three official languages of the tribunal: Arabic, English and French.
The website is for people 'who have valuable information for the investigation but have no secure and confidential means to pass it on,' said a statement from the Special Tribunal for Lebanon's prosecutors office.
It will be up to the tribunal judges to decide whether the information provided is worth following up or not, a source at the Lebanese Ministry of Justice told the German Press Agency dpa.
The website (English version) is at https://www.stl-tsl.org/action/submissionform.
Hariri was killed in a massive bomb blast in Beirut on February 14, 2005 along with 20 other people. His killing was widely blamed on Syria but Damascus has denied any links with the assassination.
At the request of Lebanon, the UN Security Council set up the tribunal in 2007 to try those who plotted and masterminded the attack.
