Beirut - The son of a United Nations official was severely beaten by unknown assailants after being briefly abducted in Beirut, Lebanese police said Friday.
According to a police report, the victim was Mathieu Fever, the son of Jean-Francois Fever who is in charge of security for UN agencies in Lebanon, including the office of the Prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon Daniel Bellemare.
Mathieu Fever was seized at 5 pm Thursday (1400 GMT) as he drove through Beirut's Christian area of Badaro.
The Voice of Lebanon radio said the attackers in a four-wheeler covered Fever's head with a plastic bag and took him to an unknown location, where he was beaten before being released two hours later with a broken leg.
Fever, who carries a diplomatic passport, filed a complaint with Lebanese authorities, who immediately opened an investigation.
