Media rights body calls for release of 41 journalists held in Iran

Paris - World media rights body Reporters Without Borders on Sunday expressed concern about the 'growing repression' in Iran of journalists and cyber-dissidents in the post-election period.
The organization also called for the immediate release of 41 journalists detained by authorities following anti-government demonstrations that began after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re- elected a month ago.
'Iran is already the world's biggest prison for journalists and cyber-dissidents and is on the way to becoming the world's most dangerous place for them to operate,' Reporters Without Borders said in a statement.
Four of the latest five detained were being held in a secret location, with no information on their welfare given to their families or legal representatives, the organization said. Among them are photographers Tohid Bighi and Majid Saidi, blogger Henghameh Shahidi and newspaper editor Somaieh Nosrati.
