EU urges Israel to halt demolition of homes in East Jerusalem
Jul 21, 2009, 14:20 GMT
Stockholm - Sweden, current holder of the European Union's rotating presidency, Tuesday urged Israel to halt home demolitions and evictions in East Jerusalem.
Israel was urged 'to refrain from provocative actions in East Jerusalem,' the Swedish government, which took over the rotating presidency of the 27-nation bloc July 1, said.
Similar calls have been made the United States and the Mideast Quartet - composed of the United States, the EU, Russia and the United Nations.
The statement also noted that the EU in March had expressed concern over the evictions facing two families in East Jerusalem.
