Aug 19, 2009, 17:12 GMT
Amman - Jordan's State Security Court on Wednesday decided to jail two Jordanians for 12 years after finding them guilty of plotting to kill an Israeli businessman, judicial sources said.
The two defendants, Luai Shehadeh, 37, and Mohammad Oudeh, 36, were also condemned for the illegal possession of automatic weapons.
According to the indictment sheet, the two men 'plotted to carry out military operations against Jews inside Jordan and bought two automatic weapons in 2008 for this purpose.'
They set a date of January 3, 2009 for killing an Israeli businessman who owned a plant in the Qualified Industrial Zone near the city of Irbid, 80 kilometres north of the capital, Amman.
But they failed to carry out their plan after they were intercepted by a police patrol, the charge sheet said.
The two defendants were arrested on January 6 and confessed to the charge, it added.
The verdicts can be appealed within 30 days, judicial sources said.
