Egypt demands Israeli apology over border shooting incident
Aug 23, 2009, 14:36 GMT
Cairo- Egypt's Foreign Ministry summoned the Israeli charge d'affaires on Sunday to protest the shooting of an Egyptian policeman on the border last week, the state news agency MENA reported.
Egypt has expressed its condemnation of these 'recurrent irresponsible acts' by Israel and has demanded an apology, MENA quoted foreign ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki as saying.
Israeli soldiers on patrol along the Israel-Egypt border opened fire on an Egyptian soldier on August 17, wounding him.
An Israeli military spokeswoman in Tel Aviv said at the time the soldiers thought they were dealing with a cross-border infiltrator when he cocked his weapon.
Egyptian officials who have been investigating the incident, however, insist the blame lies with the Israeli side, Zaki said.
