Mitchell and Netanyahu make "progress" at London talks (Extra)
Aug 26, 2009, 13:37 GMT
London - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Middle East envoy George Mitchell held four hour of talks in London Wednesday during which 'progress' was made towards a resumption of peace talks with the Palestinians.
While the two men remained tight-lipped after their meeting at a London hotel, Israeli media said they had agreed on the need to begin 'significant' peace talks with the aim of forging an overall agreement.
The atmosphere of the talks was described as 'good' by officials in the entourage of Netanyahu, who was due to travel on to Germany for talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel.
After the talks in London, neither Netanyahu nor Mitchell went into specifics about the substance of their discussions.
'We are making headway. My government has taken steps in both words and deeds to move forward,' Netanyahu said before the talks.
